Summary

The app was designed by the Dutch charity Alzheimer Nederland to help family, friends and healthcare workers to start conversations with people with dementia.

Through the app, you can build up a personal record for the individual with dementia to help anyone start a conversation on things that matter most to them as a person.

For example, you can record and link to:

  • Favourite topics for discussion
  • Videos, music or sound recordings that mean something to the person

The app offers examples to help get started.

Once the ideas are set up for the person, you can choose who to share it with, for example healthcare workers caring for the individual.

Review:

“The app 'That is me' helps you to start a conversation with someone with dementia. Are you not sure what to talk about? With the app you always have a topic at hand that evokes positive memories. Together with family and friends you collect topics of conversation that affect your loved one. Add images and videos to personalize the story. Get ideas from the sample topics and videos…

…It is more difficult for people with dementia to start a conversation. Healthcare workers, family and friends do not know everything about your loved one. With beautiful moments, positive memories and favorite music, everyone always has something that helps in contact with your loved one…

…By sharing the app with family, friends and healthcare workers they can also use the images and stories. In this way, everyone involved gets to know your loved one even better. Also browse the sample topics and videos. Talk about sports, holidays or music from back then.”
