Summary

An app which helps to guide and support people with visual impairments when they visit specific places.

The app aims to give people:

  • Spoken guidance on finding their way around participating venues
  • Access to spoken versions of available text materials, for example, descriptions at tourist sites, or museums.

When you load the app, it lists places already able to provide the guidance, in order of how close they are to your current location.

The developers add the reminder that as the app relies on running Global Position System software this can diminish battery life.

Reviews

Reviewer: Explanation from app development team, cited in Portuguese patient group for people with visual impairments, ACAPO, Associação dos Cegos e Amblíopes de Portugal
Review:

“myEyes is a technology ecosystem through which we create “blind compliant” zones, that is, zones adapted for people with vision problems.

It is a pioneering system through which the mobile phone speaks to the person…narrating what is around while giving guidance on how to get from one point to another.

Through a simple app available for both Android and IOS and based on different algorithms, the system launches messages…for people who are blind or have low vision so they are able to orient themselves.”
