Reviewer: International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), Switzerland
Review: "The FRAX® tool is a freely-accessible online calculator developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to help evaluate patients at low, medium, or high risk of fragility fractures based on clinical-risk factors (with or without the use of bone mineral-density values). FRAX® calculates an individual’s 10-year probability of hip fracture and 10-year probability of a major osteoporotic fracture (forearm, hip, shoulder or spine fracture). The information helps physicians make informed treatment decisions in the course of a clinical evaluation."

Review: "You may have heard about FRAX®, a fracture risk-assessment system from the World Health Organization (WHO) that was released in March 2008. It lets an individual enter their risk factors (for example, having broken a bone, being a smoker or on a steroid medication) as well as bone mineral density (BMD) at the hip. The FRAX tool then calculates the 10-year risk of hip fracture and the 10-year risk of a major osteoporotic fracture (spine, forearm, hip or shoulder fracture). The FRAX tool is now available on the FRAX website and as an iPhone application."
