Summary

App that aims to help a user manage blood-sugar levels through healthy eating. Gives access to a database of nutritional information on 40,000 food items and 20,000 restaurant-menu meals, run by ‘CalorieKing’, a US nutritional-information website. Also acts as a restaurant locator, containing a database of 175,000 restaurants from 200 food chains, allowing the user to search for restaurants within ten miles of location. The user can search and source the nutritional content of food and beverages (including calories, carbohydrates, fats, and protein). Meals can be recorded, and saved to the ‘Today’s Plate’ calendar function. Data on dishes and menus can be combined, providing aggregate nutritional values that can be tracked over time.

Review: “ ‘GoMeals’ is the best carbohydrate-counting app I’ve seen. Comprehensive, easy to use, and doesn’t require the Internet. Score!”

Review: “I do not think you will get an app much better than ‘GoMeals’, even if you are willing to pay money. I have tons of carb-counting apps, and ‘GoMeals’ is about the best. It's free, it’s bug free, it’s a professional app that’s nice to look at (not crappy and clunky, like some of the apps). Why don’t you add your commonly-eaten items to your ‘Favourites’, and this would cut down on your button pressing. Most apps that have to search databases are going to have you press a few buttons—but, really, how hard is that? I mean, it beats having to browse through a paperback book, using print so small you need a magnifier to see it.”

Review: “This three-in-one app is simple, and easy to use. First, you can search popular restaurants near you. After picking a category (such as ‘American’), it will display where these eateries are on the map, and tell how far away they are from your current location. Next, you can search specific or general foods to find out nutritional content. Since this app uses the ‘CalorieKing’ nutritional database, it has thousands of foods and dishes to choose from. You can even find specific meals found at restaurants, and see how many calories the dishes have, along with how much fat, sodium, sugar, protein, and fibre. Finally, you can track the food you eat, by entering it in on the calendar. Once you enter some personal information, it creates your own ‘Today’s Plate’ that shows the total calories you consumed for the day, as well as the percentages of carbs, protein, and fats you ate, along with other nutritional information. This app truly is a great way to start the process of eating healthier. It not only makes you aware of what you are eating, but also provides you with different foods or meals that are healthier.”
